Responsibilities
Take principal ownership of the design, development, and maintenance of software foundational to world- class test and characterization capabilities for radio frequency ( RF) systems
Utilize a systems- level approach to enable novel RF measurement methods in developing software frameworks that encompass test automation, data acquisition, data post- processing, data management, and data analytics
Lead and contribute to experimentation in state- of- the- art research laboratories for the evaluation of RF systems and 5G telecommunications infrastructure
Support the planning and execution of complex spectrum sharing and co- existence studies administered by the designated program office, hosted at NIST
Design and oversee a unifying software architecture to enable world- class RF system test capabilities and industry relevance
Define software development best practices to integrate test and evaluation tools and data frameworks for group research and program office projects
Lead coordination with researchers and engineers within the organization as well as external partners to inform measurement, data, and software requirements
Serve as a principal team member and subject matter expert in scientific testing and systems metrology to the group
Duties include training and mentoring of junior group members, participating in strategic planning, leading troubleshooting activities, dissemination of scientific results at relevant technical conferences, in refereed technical journals, and in NIST technical reports
Qualification
Required
Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education
Courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound
One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level, ZP-III at NIST
Specialized experience is defined as: RF and millimeter-wave measurement and metrology-grade testing, including vector network analysis, signal analysis, and over-the-air measurements
Test automation and calibration of scientific equipment
Data acquisition, management, and analysis supporting technical measurement activities
Application of telecommunications physical-layer principles and software development best practices in measurement or test environments
