JJYS Lead Youth Development Specialist/Control Supervisor

Responsibilities

Uses security and control techniques to secure people, facilities, property, supplies or equipment
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules
Maintains records and logs
Provides crisis intervention when necessary
Receives calls and/or greets visitors, takes and relays messages, responds to
Assist with teaching a variety of pro-social, academic and vocational skills
Provide counseling to youth both individually and in groups surrounding program/facility rules, regulations and guidelines
Assist in the preservation of safety and security by performing facility searches and, when required by policy, youth searches
Help and encourage youths to behave positively by assessing and evaluating them using a behavior management/reward system
Mentor youth within a group setting and help them develop positive plans and goals
Pass the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment
Speaks clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally
Communicates information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read an understand information presented in writing

Required

Coordinate and schedule activities of residents within the 24 hour JJS facility
Provide constant supervision of all individual and group activities for at-risk youth
Oversee the daily operations of the 'Control Room' which ensures the safety and security of the youth, employees, volunteers and the public
Supervise JJYS Technicians, including monitoring their work, providing training, scheduling, hiring staff and evaluating performance plans

Preference may be given to candidates 21 years of age and a high school diploma or GED
Six years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth; six years of full-time education or a combination of education and experience to equal six years
Qualifying work experience: Paid work at any JJYS facility, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools, juvenile probation/parole, Law enforcement, or programs that work with at-risk or delinquent youths
