NEOGOV is seeking a Catch Record Card & Coded Wire Tag Technician to support the Department of Fish and Wildlife in Olympia, WA. This role involves processing sport angler catch record cards, managing data, and providing customer support to anglers regarding catch reporting issues.

Responsibilities
Sort incoming catch record cards based on catch and sample status
Record card numbers in the card return database
Ensure cards are properly routed to and returned from Data Entry
Scan cards to create digital images for retrieval and review
Review catch cards for missing, incorrect, illegible, or inconsistent information
Apply knowledge of fishery locations, seasons, watersheds, and major waterways (ocean, Puget Sound, Columbia River, Snake River) to interpret entries accurately
Identify unusual, unlikely, or potentially illegal catch reports
Read coded wire tags (CWTs) using a computer
Interpret and transcribe tag and catch data into spreadsheets and databases
Enter data into the correct recovery year, fishery, and assigned batch number
Recognize and flag inaccurate, incomplete, or questionable data
Maintain accurate electronic records to support fisheries monitoring and reporting
Handle incoming phone calls from anglers regarding catch reporting issues
Contact anglers to resolve discrepancies, missing data, or questionable reports
Access and use the fishing license database to verify and update angler and catch information
Communicate professionally and diplomatically with difficult or upset customers
Remove cores from fish heads and dissect samples to locate CWTs, following established protocols
Coordinate with team members to ensure accurate snout counts and data integrity
Organize samples by fishery
Clean and maintain tools and equipment
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or GED including one (1) year of high school science and Two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1
Graduation from high school or GED including one (1) year of high school science and Two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
One (1) or more years of experience in/with: Data management
One (1) or more years of experience in/with: Data entry and interpretation
One (1) or more years of experience in/with: Working with the public
One (1) or more years of experience in/with: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
One (1) or more years of experience in/with: Coded Wire Tags (CWT)
Familiarity with: Sport fishing seasons, regulations, and terminology
