Responsibilities
Understand and apply GM Safety Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results
Use CAE to lead the vehicle design, while balancing all applicable Global Safety Requirements
Perform CAE simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness performance for high-speed Frontal, Side, and/or Rear impact load cases using LS-DYNA software
Generate feasible and timely vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS) and achieve balance safety performance which also account for the results of crash simulations for the major safety load cases
Work with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes as required
Use advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS/MDO) to optimize the structural designs and improve structural efficiency
Physical safety test support at the Milford Vehicle Proving Grounds including test requests, test, post-test teardowns, interpretation of results, issue resolution follow-through, and comparison of CAE to test results
Present performance status at appropriate forums on regular basis
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering, physics or math
4+ years of application in virtual CAE and physical testing relating to vehicle structures
Lead Post Crash Electrical Integrity assessment (PCEI) and architectural issue resolution
Propose design and PCEI countermeasures in cross-functional forums for issues identified in simulation while balancing requirements of other teams and determine solutions that meet critical milestones
Willingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiously
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
High level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systems
Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques
Preferred
Master's or PhD in Engineering, physics or math
Experience in virtual CAE and physical testing for automotive structures crashworthiness
Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
Working knowledge of Unigraphics, TeamCenter, and VisMockup
Knowledge and experience with GM's Global Vehicle Development Process
