Epidemiologist

California Rural Indian Health Board is engaged in improving health for American Indian communities, and they are seeking an Epidemiologist to conduct epidemiologic activities and produce health reports. Responsibilities

Develops project methodology and determines research design
Collects epidemiological electronic data files from Indian health programs and state health agencies
Stores and manages the collected data
Generates analysis plans
Performs analyses, including data linkages with statistical and spreadsheet programs; interprets analyses and writes analytical sections of study reports
Develop data collection instruments and collect health surveillance
Produces both lay and technical reports to present health data
Serves as a coordinator for one or more projects
Develops work scopes and schedules for special projects
Assists in writing complex contracts or grants as needed
Assists in designing and developing simple and complex grant budgets and justifications as needed
Serves as a professional consultant to various organizations and committees
Communicates with Indian health care providers and the Indian community about data and analytical issues
Ensures the accuracy and clarity of analytical information in the EpiCenter
Monitors specifically funded program activities and special projects, as assigned
Regular and predictable attendance
Other relevant duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent is required for all applicants
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Science, or a closely related field
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, including three (3) years directly related to the program area (e.g., grant writing, health research, technical writing, or data coordination)
Minimum one (1) year in a supervisory or management role of at least three (3) employees preferred
Applicants who do not possess a bachelor's degree (but meet the high school minimum requirement) must have at least nine (9) years of progressively professional experience demonstrating comparable scope and responsibility, including at least three (3) years in a related field and two (2) years in a supervisory role
Experience conducting research literature reviews and working with statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA)
Strong analytical and writing skills, including the ability to produce well-organized and informative narratives of analytical methods
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Proficiency in various statistical software (i.e., SAS, SPSS, STATA)
Work with minimal supervision
Ability to multitask
Experience in time management and meeting deadlines
Commitment to confidentiality, equity, and American Indian self-determination
Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel functions and Office 365 applications
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and accountability
Demonstrated time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
Cultural competency and respect for American Indian / Alaska Native traditions, customs, and socioeconomic contexts

Preferred

Master's degree in Public Health, Health Science, or a related field is preferred
Experience with Tribal health systems, nonprofit organizations, evaluation, or the public sector preferred
