Responsibilities
Lead backporting of complex bug fixes, security patches (CVEs), and approved features across multiple maintained branches
Analyze architectural and codebase differences between versions to ensure safe and efficient integrations
Resolve complex merge conflicts and refactor code while maintaining backward compatibility
Perform deep debugging, root cause analysis, and performance validation across legacy systems
Partner with Security teams to assess risk and prioritize vulnerability remediation
Review code contributions and ensure adherence to coding and branching standards
Drive patch release coordination with Release Engineering and DevOps teams
Improve backporting workflows, automation, and documentation processes
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers on branch management and maintenance strategies
Qualification
Required
7+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale or multi-version environments
Strong expertise with Git and advanced branching strategies (Gitflow, trunk-based, release branching models)
Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C, C++, Python)
Experience maintaining long-term supported (LTS) or enterprise software releases
Strong kernel debugging skills using various tools, such as, gdb, kdgb, ftrace, probes, kernel memory sanitizers, etc
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release engineering practices
Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-team communication skills
Exposure to Virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, libvirt, etc)
