Studio Assistant (Part-Time)
The School of Visual Arts is a leader in the education of artists, designers, and creative professionals. They are seeking a part-time Studio Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of a dynamic graduate studio program, providing hands-on support across studio, administrative, and design-related functions.
Education
Responsibilities
Support daily studio operations and general program needs
Assist with exhibition planning, preparation, installation, and deinstallation of departmental events
Support admissions activities, including interviews, information sessions, and portfolio reviews
Assist with departmental design needs, including posters, invitations, videos, website updates, and social media maintenance
In collaboration with the Chair and Director of Operations, assist in planning, coordinating, and promoting external events, projects, and partnerships (e.g., with Rizzoli, Brooklyn Public Library, and other cultural institutions)
Provide classroom and technical support to faculty
Scan artwork and documents, and maintain the department archive
Monitor the MFAI computer lab and troubleshoot basic technical issues
Perform general administrative and organizational tasks as needed
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Fine Arts (BFA), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience
Two (2) or more years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a studio, arts, academic, or administrative support environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Google Workspace
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Rush
Knowledge of supporting the day-to-day operations of a dynamic graduate studio program
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, Final Cut, and Rush
Skill in effective verbal and written communication
Skill using contemporary software and digital tools, including platforms with AI-supported features, to improve efficiency and workflow
Ability in using MyEmma and other SVA-related administrative systems
Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
Ability to anticipate issues, exercise sound judgment, and resolve problems independently
Ability to conduct basic research and analyze information to identify trends or underlying issues
Ability to perform manual and hands-on tasks related to studio operations and exhibitions
Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 20-25 pounds
Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding as required for studio and exhibition work
Preferred
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master of Arts (MA) is preferred
Familiarity with Adobe Premiere and Final Cut, or other video editing software, preferred
Experience supporting exhibitions, installations, or events
Experience with website updates and/or social media content management
Basic technical troubleshooting experience (computer labs, scanners, printers, audiovisual equipment)
Interest in contemporary arts, illustration, visual storytelling, or academic arts administration
