The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking a Klickitat Equipment Operator 2 (EO2) to join their Southeast Region team. This role involves operating heavy equipment for road maintenance and construction projects, as well as maintaining the DNR’s road infrastructure and supporting various programs in the region.

Responsibilities

Equipment maintenance including assisting in arranging service, lubrication, minor adjustments and repairs

Required

Ability to operate a pickup sized vehicle in a variety of weather conditions and terrain
Ability to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as: John Deere 772 grader, D-5 dozer, excavator, vibratory roller, 10 cubic yard tandem axle diesel dump truck and 20-ton tilt bed trailer, backhoe w/ front end loader, 40-foot boom truck, power brush cutter and various hand tools needed for maintenance (welder, cutting torch, etc.)
Ability to perform routine heavy equipment maintenance along with troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of state motor vehicle laws, including those pertaining to use and transporting of heavy equipment
Effective communication skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team on assigned tasks

Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and public records retention and requests are followed

A current valid driver's license and two years of driving experience
Pre-employment CDL verification, work history background check and drug testing will be required as a condition of employment

Preferred

Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment of more than five tons rated capacity, including heavy bulldozers, graders, excavators and similar construction equipment on forest road construction and maintenance projects
One year of experience in operating bulldozers and dump trucks with tilt bed trailers on wildland fires
Knowledge of Washington State Forest Practice standards (rules, RMAP procedures, requirements), state laws, and state regulations
Familiarity with GPS usage, maps and aerial photos
