Responsibilities
Own the eCommerce Architecture. Lead end-to-end architecture for Liferay DXP + Commerce (catalog, pricing, promotions, checkout, order orchestration, content, personalization, search). Define target/reference architectures, guardrails, and patterns for scale, resilience, and cost
Modernize the experience. Evolve us toward modular, maintainable solutions by leveraging leading-edge Liferay platform features such as client extensions
Tame tech debt. Establish a prioritized remediation plan, accelerate defect burn‑down, and improve stability/performance through code standards, platform upgrades, caching, and observability
Lead delivery. Provide technical leadership to a cross functional squad (backend, frontend, QA, DevOps). Unblock teams, conduct design reviews, and make crisp tradeoffs between speed, quality, and risk
Platform stewardship. Define and enforce API contracts, versioning, extension points, and integration patterns across payments, tax, identity/SSO, marketing tools, and analytics
Data & search. Ensure high quality product/catalog data flows, metadata strategy, and search/merchandising that supports discovery, conversion, and SEO
Performance & reliability. Set SLOs, implement RUM/APM, capacity planning, synthetic tests, and chaos friendly patterns (bulkheads, timeouts, retries, idempotency)
Security & compliance. Partner with security secrets, PCI-relevant flows, PII, and secure coding; drive threat modeling and regular pentest remediation
Vendor & partner leadership. Set technical direction for services partners, review SOWs, and hold vendors to measurable engineering outcomes
Delivery excellence. Raise the bar on SDLC: branching, CI/CD, trunk‑based practices, test automation, quality gates, and progressive delivery (feature flags)
Road mapping & stakeholder comms. Translate business goals into a sequenced platform roadmap. Communicate status and risks clearly to executives and cross-functional leaders
Provide guidance. Work with end-users in the business to drive adoption of best practices in content creation, delivery, and design
Qualification
Required
Depth in Liferay. 7+ years implementing Liferay DXP (Portal/Content/Commerce), including extensions, OSGi modules, upgrade paths, and the headless toolset; experience with Liferay Commerce capabilities in production
Modern front‑end integration. Strong experience with React and DXP client‑extension/remote‑app patterns; comfort designing for decoupled or progressively decoupled architectures
eCommerce domain expertise. Practical understanding of catalog models, entitlement/pricing, promotions, checkout/payment/tax, order management, B2B/B2C flows, and multi‑site/multi‑catalog scenarios
Integration architecture. Proven patterns for integrating DXP with CRM, payments, tax, search, marketing, and analytics—plus eventing, queuing, and data contracts
SDLC leadership. Track record improving delivery speed and quality through architecture runway, quality gates, and CI/CD; comfortable mentoring engineers and guiding code quality
Reliability mindset. Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, caching/CDN, and production observability (APM, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts)
Security & privacy. Familiar with secure coding practices, OWASP Top 10, and compliance considerations across commerce flows
Communication & influence. Executive-friendly communication; ability to align stakeholders, guide partners, and make decisions with incomplete information
Preferred
Liferay upgrade/migration leadership (e.g., 7.x to latest, Commerce adoption)
Search/merchandising experience (e.g., Elastic or headless search adapters)
Azure experience (Azure DevOps, pipelines, artifacts)
Experience leading distributed vendor teams and formal partner evaluations
Experience with Salesforce B2B Commerce is strongly preferred, particularly in environments where Liferay and Salesforce interact for product data, commerce, or customer workflows
