Network Services Engineer
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads for 50 years, providing higher education and workforce services. The Network Services Engineer will perform intermediate to advanced systems engineering and administration duties supporting cloud-based, hybrid, and on-premise enterprise environments, focusing on Microsoft 365 and other IT services.

Responsibilities
Perform intermediate to advanced systems engineering and administration duties supporting cloud-based, hybrid, and on-premise enterprise environments
Support Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams), Windows Server, Linux Server, SQL Server, Intune, SCCM, endpoint security, vulnerability management, backup and recovery systems, monitoring, automation, and incident response
Support Zero Trust security principles and provide responsive, customer-focused IT services
May be required to perform other duties as assigned
May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor
Qualification
Required
Extensive knowledge of enterprise Windows Server, Linux Servers, administration and troubleshooting in hybrid environments
Strong understanding of identity and access management concepts (directory services, authentication, authorization, MFA, least privilege)
Experience with virtualization platforms and management of virtual compute workloads (capacity, availability, patching, lifecycle)
Experience with enterprise storage technologies (SAN/NAS concepts, iSCSI/fiber channel where applicable, tiering, replication, and performance tuning)
Experience with backup/restore operations, retention policies, recovery testing, and disaster recovery planning/execution
Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS/DHCP, routing/switching concepts, and how systems dependencies affect service health
Ability to design, implement, and maintain monitoring/alerting, logging, and operational dashboards to support service reliability
Ability to script/automate routine administration (e.g., PowerShell) and create repeatable operational runbooks
Strong verbal/written communication skills; ability to document technical decisions and communicate outages/risks clearly to stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and follow change management and security processes
Availability for occasional after-hours/weekend maintenance and incident response as required
Experience in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field or equivalent demonstrated professional experience in enterprise systems administration
Industry-recognized certifications or equivalent demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: Microsoft (Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server), Linux Servers, networking fundamentals (e.g., Network+), identity and access management, or systems administration
Extensive experience administering and supporting Windows Server–based enterprise environments, including hybrid (on premises and cloud-integrated) infrastructure in a large campus or enterprise WAN/LAN environment
Experience installing, configuring, and supporting server hardware and server operating systems, including virtualization platforms and lifecycle management (patching, upgrades, capacity planning)
Experience administering Microsoft 365 services, such as Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related collaboration and messaging platforms
Working experience with identity, security, and endpoint management technologies, including MFA, conditional access, Intune, SCCM, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and Zero Trust security principles
Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions, including recovery testing, retention policies, and incident response support
Preferred
Relevant industry certifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in systems engineering, security, cloud, virtualization, or backup technologies
Experience installing, configuring, and supporting web servers and web-enabled applications, including IIS and SQL Server administration in enterprise environments
Experience supporting heterogeneous environments, including macOS, Linux, and mobile platforms, as well as scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell) to improve operational efficiency
Formal training or advanced certifications in Microsoft, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, virtualization, or enterprise infrastructure technologies
