TPWD - Intern I - II - III (State Parks Region 1 – West Texas)

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is dedicated to managing and conserving Texas's natural and cultural resources. They are seeking interns to gain relevant work experience in park operations, which includes tasks in management, education, administration, maintenance, and resource protection.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Responsible for performing a complete range of tasks to experience all the aspects of park administration, operations and management
Duties may include, but are not limited to, natural and cultural resource management; facility, grounds and equipment maintenance management; interpretation and education programming and management; customer service, fee collection, revenue control and fiscal accountability; marketing and promotional programming; park patrols to include visitor contact and law enforcement observation
Performs special projects/assignments and attends selected training programs to enhance the overall working knowledge and skills related to operational and management activities
Internship will also include a special project to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern, to meet both site needs and intern’s educational and development
Performs additional duties as assigned
Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures

Required

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months
Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application
Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or 'Pass' on a Pass/Fail system
Must possess a valid state driver's license
Knowledge in general of Texas State Parks
Knowledge of office practices or administrative procedures
Skill in use of standard office equipment and software
Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams and Adobe products
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while working on projects/assignments
Skill in managing several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Skill in exercising leadership qualities
Skill in civic or community engagement
Skill in meeting deadlines
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to prepare reports
Ability to provide quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner

Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of administrative systems or procedures
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with matters of significant consequences
