New Grad, Entry LevelThe City of Fairhope is seeking a Water Service Technician to perform various tasks associated with the installation and maintenance of the City’s water and wastewater system infrastructure. This role involves operating heavy equipment and utilizing hand power tools to ensure the effective functioning of water service systems.

Responsibilities
Installs and maintains water service mains and lines
Installs and repairs fire hydrants
Sets water meters and irrigation meters
Installs and maintains wastewater service mains and lines
Utilizes hand power tools to install and maintain wastewater and water system components
Maintains tools utilized in wastewater and water system installation and maintenance
Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators and dump trucks utilized in installing and maintaining the City’s wastewater and water systems
Monitors all equipment for needed repairs or maintenance
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable
Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours when required
Ability to travel to attend professional development workshops and training programs
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen
Knowledge of City rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Knowledge of City geography, road, and street systems
Knowledge of City wastewater and water service systems
Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention
Knowledge of basic plumbing skills and procedures
Communication skills to effectively communicate internally and externally, both orally and in writing
Verbal skills to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and customers
Writing skills to develop professional reports and other materials using correct English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Math skills to perform basic mathematical calculations
Ability to operate hand power tools safely and effectively
Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively
Ability to use a multiline telephone and two-way radio
Ability to effectively work with other crew members
Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner
Ability to prioritize work projects and multi-task
Ability to organize files and work projects
Ability to work with little or no supervision
