Range Technician(Weeds)
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking to fill two temporary Range Technician positions located in Susanville and Cedarville, CA. The role involves collecting and recording data related to range studies, assisting in range inventory efforts, and ensuring compliance with grazing permits and leases.

Responsibilities
As specifically instructed, collects and records data in range studies such as condition and trend reasons for use, utilization, actual use, and climatological data
Serves as a team member for range inventory efforts such as mapping which entails collecting, compiling, and recording vegetation data on each site write-up area
Reviews data for accuracy and completeness and for meeting users’ requirements. Notes circumstances that cause variances in data
Documents findings including preparing maps showing locations of weeds and unauthorized use
Under the direction of a higher-level technician or specialist, works with cooperators to complete weed projects with user groups, recreationists, volunteers, etc
Allotment Management Plans (AMPs): Ensures grazing permits and leases are compliant with the AMP
Reports violations or needed maintenance. Serves as a point of contact, for permittee/lessee, on a variety of general inquiries

You cannot hold an active real estate license: nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands

This position requires you to wear an officially-approved uniform while in a duty status
Some locations may require that you possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position
This is a bargaining unit position
GS-4: 6 months General experience and 6 months Specialized 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation
GS-5: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-4 or 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation
GS-6: 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level (GS-5)
In addition to the experience requirements described in the group coverage standard, seasonal experience may also be creditable
A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis
Work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or Federally controlled lands for grazing
Range research activities
Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range
Range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work
For GS-3: Successful completion of 1 year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in a combination of courses such as range management or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position
Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement
Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting
Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
