Sr. Controls Engineer (Manufacturing)

iLocatum is a leader in building materials, and they are seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer to act as the technical authority for automation and electrical systems at a high-volume manufacturing facility. This high-visibility role focuses on engineering leadership, overseeing capital projects, modernizing control systems, and improving operational performance.

Responsibilities

Lead Capital Engineering Projects: Own electrical and controls projects from justification and design through installation, commissioning, and vendor management
Modernize Automation Systems: Design, optimize, and upgrade PLC, HMI, VFD, and networked control systems, including large-scale replacement of obsolete coordinated drive systems
Improve Reliability: Lead root cause analysis on chronic electrical and automation issues and implement engineered, long-term solutions
Mentor & Influence: Serve as a technical resource to electricians, supervisors, and junior engineers, strengthening site-wide controls capability
Ensure Safety & Compliance: Maintain compliance with NFPA 70E and corporate engineering standards across all systems and integrations
Partner with Leadership: Translate technical risks and opportunities into clear, actionable recommendations for plant leadership

Required

5–7+ years of controls engineering experience in continuous or heavy manufacturing
Strong hands-on expertise with Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs
Experience leading capital projects ($100K+) from design through commissioning
Proven work with complex automation systems; coordinated drive systems experience (matlines, wind-ups, etc.) is highly preferred
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET)
Ability to work independently in a 24/7 production environment
Solid understanding of NFPA 70E and electrical safety standards

Preferred

Coordinated drive systems experience (matlines, wind-ups, etc.) is highly preferred
