Structural Engineer 3

They are seeking a Structural Engineer 3 to support the Vulcan Booster design and build process by performing structural analysis and making engineering design recommendations.

Responsibilities
Perform strength, stability, fatigue, and fracture analysis for structural components
Create analysis models, perform hand calculations, and understand analysis best practices to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs, installations, ground, and handling equipment
Review and approve 3-D engineering layouts, 3-D models, designs/drawings and 2-D drawing changes for a variety of mechanical system components and installations
Make engineering design recommendations with consideration of thermal, mechanical, and pressure loading using appropriate material properties, configurations, safety factors, etc
Support internal peer reviews, tabletop reviews, and formal design reviews as needed
Support fast-paced design/analysis cycles and be able to evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production activities
Participate in internal/external design reviews, and technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and may be expected to present analysis products at preliminary/critical design reviews (PDR/CDR)
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Fundamental knowledge of statics and mechanics of materials
Understanding of analysis tools and methodology such as: NASTRAN (Static, Modal, Dynamic and Non-Linear Analysis Solutions), FEMAP pre/post processor
Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results
Experience analyzing structural components (machined primary/secondary structure)
General understanding of: Material properties, Bolted joint modeling and analysis, GD&T standards and principles, Analysis best practices and underlying assumptions, Basic hand calculations
Preferred
Proficiency with MS Office tools
Knowledge of Launch Vehicles
Experience supporting factory operations
Knowledge of fabrication processes
Integration and Communication skills
