Responsibilities
Install, configure, and manage PostgreSQL and MySQL databases across production and non-production environments
Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and query optimization
Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery strategies (replication, clustering, PITR, backups)
Deploy and manage databases in AWS including RDS, Aurora (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and EC2-based deployments
Implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for automated provisioning
Build automation using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages
Enforce database security best practices (IAM, encryption, SSL/TLS, access controls) aligned with financial compliance standards
Set up monitoring and alerting using CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic, or similar tools
Lead database migrations, upgrades, and patching with minimal downtime
Troubleshoot complex production database issues and participate in incident response/root cause analysis
Collaborate with DevOps, application development, and security teams on performance and reliability
Configure and maintain backup strategies including WAL archiving, PITR, and automated snapshots
Document database architecture, procedures, and configurations
Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance to development teams
Qualification
Required
7+ years of database administration/engineering experience
5+ years PostgreSQL and MySQL production experience
Expert-level PostgreSQL and MySQL architecture, replication, performance tuning, and administration
Extensive AWS experience including RDS, Aurora (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and EC2-based database deployments
Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL experience including stored procedures and performance tuning tools
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.)
Automation scripting experience (Python, Bash, or similar)
Experience with database security, backup strategies, disaster recovery, and compliance
Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting skills in high-pressure production environments
Strong communication and collaboration skills
