Tooling Manager
Groe Advisors LLC is seeking a Tooling Manager to provide senior-level mold design and tooling expertise. The role involves leading an internal tool shop, managing mold design for medical connector components, and collaborating with product engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage an internal tool shop with toolmakers and mold design engineers on staff
Lead DFM review on new product designs, identifying draft requirements, parting lines, undercuts, shut-offs, wall transitions, and tooling risks
Design and/or review injection molds for medical connector components, over-molded strain reliefs, and cable assemblies
Support tooling concepts including gating, venting, cooling, steel conditions, surface finishes, slides, lifters, and other mold actions
Partner with product engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable, robust, and cost-effective
Interface with external domestic and offshore mold shops during tool design, build, debug, and qualification
Assist sustaining engineering teams with tooling-related issues, yield improvements, and design updates
Qualification
Required
7+ years of progressively responsible experience in mold design, tooling, or toolmaking
Associates' degree or higher in engineering, manufacturing, or related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
Working proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software
Ability to conduct effective DFM and tooling feasibility reviews with engineering and suppliers
Strong background in medical device or regulated manufacturing environments
Experience working with global manufacturing partners
Preferred
Experience in medical connector and cable assembly mold design, tooling engineering, or toolmaking
Background as a journeyman toolmaker or significant shop floor experience
Familiarity with medical validation environments (IQ/OQ/PQ awareness)
