Responsibilities
Create, update, and maintain electric distribution designs using GIS-based design tools and drafting software
Produce 2D drawings (with occasional 3D drawings) illustrating:
Underground cable routing
Transformer locations
Utility pole placement
Interpret customer requests, engineering drawings, and technical specifications
Prepare supporting documentation, including:
Bills of material
Project schedules
Drawing transmittals
Revise designs based on engineering feedback, construction requirements, and field conditions
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously from initial request through final design approval
Communicate directly with residential and commercial customers to clarify scope, requirements, and timelines
Collaborate with internal electric, gas, and service design teams to ensure alignment and avoid conflicts
Assist engineering and construction teams with design clarifications and project updates
Conduct local site visits to evaluate existing infrastructure and site conditions
Verify measurements, access points, and constructability prior to finalizing designs
Review new project requests and updates in SAP
Balance time between office-based design work and field assessments
Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and regular team check-ins
Qualification
Required
2–4 years of basic electrical knowledge or industry-related experience (utility, electrical, construction, or similar fields)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to explain technical or industry-specific concepts clearly to customers
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred
Experience with GIS or AutoCAD (not required)
Prior experience in the electrical or utility industry
