The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for New Yorkers. The selected intern will review designs, conduct inspections, and assist with administrative tasks related to wastewater and stormwater systems, gaining valuable experience in these fields.

Responsibilities
Review Subsurface Sewage Treatment System (SSTS) designs
Review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan applications
Conduct field inspections related to construction
Witness soil testing
Prepare reports
Enter data into database
Assist in various administrative tasks
Develop a final presentation to display assignments at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony
Qualification
Required
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year)
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year
Preferred
Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in Civil/Environmental/Structural/Mechanical Engineering Environmental Science Geography or Regional Planning
Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Map/Survey/ Blueprint reading
Construction site experience a plus
Strong writing skills effective interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to understand technical information including regulations
Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software including the Microsoft Office suite and OneDrive
Leadership skills including self motivation and ability to work well independently and with others, with minimal supervision and a willingness to learn
