Packaging R&D Specialist
Creative Werks is focused on developing innovative packaging solutions for confection and snack products. The Packaging R&D Specialist will support the development, documentation, testing, and execution of packaging solutions, working closely with engineers and various teams to ensure successful project completion.
Manufacturing
Responsibilities
Support the development of packaging solutions by assisting with quoting, documentation and coordination for new and existing projects
Assist with safety and ship testing, including coordinating tests, tracking results and organizing documentation
Build and maintain material specification sheets, die lines and packaging documentation used across internal teams and with customers
Work with supplier partners to coordinate die line development and sample requests
Track, organize and ship unprinted/plain prototype samples (e.g. structural samples) and development materials
Enter and maintain packaging data, pricing and routing information in internal systems (e.g. Excel, ERP and/or TOPS)
Help prepare for and support feasibility trials, including follow-ups and data collection
Maintain organized records related to testing status, approvals, molds and tooling
Support purchase orders for samples, trials and testing activities
Organize and maintain first-production and development samples
Participate in team ideation and continuous improvement efforts for repeat packaging programs
Attend all food safety training sessions (GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Food Facility Security, Preventing Foodborne Illness)
Participate in company GMP walks
Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Material Science, Packaging Science, Supply Chain or related technical field of study
0–2 years of experience in packaging, product development, manufacturing or technical support roles
Comfortable working in technical systems, databases and Microsoft Excel-based tools, exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems a plus but not required
Sound verbal and written communication skills being able to communicate across different audiences and stakeholders
Enthusiasm to learn packaging standards, testing protocols and internal processes of the co-packing and manufacturing environment
Fosters a self-starter approach, collaboration, curiosity, problem-solving and solutioning new challenges
Sound organizational and documentation skills with high attention to detail and precision
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
Assist with safety and ship testing, including coordinating tests, tracking results, and organizing documentation
Willingness to ask questions, learn from feedback and take ownership of assigned work
Attend all food safety training sessions (GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Food Facility Security, Preventing Foodborne Illness)
Participate in company GMP walks
Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring
