Responsibilities

Sets up test equipment, monitors and measures instruments. Performs testing on breadboard circuitry, prototype units, production units, and electronic circuitry
Support consists of both technical bench and field set-up, deployment, retrieval and repairs, with travel to remote site areas as required
Builds prototype units for testing and experimentation and makes samples for further analysis
Conducts tests and experiments with new materials, equipment, and processes to develop data for specification call-out or to determine suitability of a material for particular applications
Gathers and evaluates data for validity, accuracy and completeness
Locates and corrects malfunctions in product and testing equipment
Performs post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure
Performs chemical processing and mechanical evaluations as applicable
Makes sketches and marks up drawings as needed to show changes as they occur
Maintains appropriate primary and secondary metrology standards, test laboratory equipment or control consoles and associated monitoring, measuring, and recording instruments
Drafts calibrating and operating procedures based upon comprehensive knowledge of product and testing equipment
Calibrates equipment, instruments, electrical/electronic standards and standards of mass, force, dimension, and other phenomena during or after maintenance, and on regularly scheduled calibration dates
Records laboratory notes and other details, as specified by engineering personnel
Supports activities identified by Management/Engineering to maintain equipment in a reliable efficient manner
Works with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems, and may install, characterize and/or design equipment
Improves and refines existing fixtures, devices, methods, process steps or procedures, implementing changes as necessary
May provide technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead duties

Required

4 years relevant experience or 2+ years' experience in a related technical role plus 2-year technical degree or 4-year technical degree
Some positions within this classification may require unique electrical, mechanical, chemical processing and/or electronic skills and abilities
Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business
Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
United States Citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)

Preferred

Ability to apply advanced development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to complex technical projects
Ability to work under minimal supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision-making
Execute composite part fabrication, including prepreg hand layup, vacuum bagging, curing, trimming, bonding, and surface prep
Read and interpret engineering drawings, ply schedules, and process specifications
Familiarity with automated ply cutting systems, laser projection systems and laser tracker metrology systems preferred
Experience with automated filament winding fabrication methods
Support tool prep and mold maintenance for reusability and dimensional stability
Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to provide feedback on tool designs, manufacturability, and tooling fit
Experience in maintaining detailed Records of Assembly (ROA) information
Inventory management experience including coordination of orders to maintain inventory levels
Experience creating and maintaining work instruction documentation in partnership with operators
Equipment spec evaluation, down select, and installation coordination
