Automation Architect (Hybrid)

Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced Automation Architect to design, develop, and lead enterprise automation solutions that drive efficiency, scalability, and operational excellence. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering, IT, and business stakeholders to define automation strategy, establish best practices, and deliver innovative solutions across complex systems and environments.

Responsibilities

Define and lead the automation architecture roadmap, including integration, workflow automation, RPA, intelligent document processing, and AI-enabled automation techniques
Design, assess, and implement integration and middleware patterns (e.g., APIs, EDI, B2B, event-driven) to enable automation across critical enterprise systems (SAP, PLM, ERPs, data platforms)
Create future-state architectures, narratives, and strategy documents that align automation opportunities to business objectives and measurable value
Define and scale enterprise-wide integration and automation patterns, building a roadmap that standardizes how systems connect, communicate, and automate across the organization
Conduct and guide process observation and documentation, including process mapping, task analysis, and identification of automation candidates
Facilitate workshops with SMEs to understand pain points, bottlenecks, and experience gaps
Translate business requirements into conceptual and technical automation designs
Lead proofs-of-concept, prototypes, and minimum viable products to validate proposed architectures
Oversee solution design choices including scalability, resiliency, cost, compliance, and total value
Ensure sustainable deployments and smooth operations by partnering with infrastructure, cybersecurity, development, and platform owners
Use human-in-the-loop and other UX-automation techniques to blend human judgment with machine efficiency
Advocate for automation as a first-class technology capability across Collins
Contribute to DT maturity assessments and help evolve our automation and integration competencies

Required

Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder)
Demonstrated experience in automation and / or integration architecture, with a history of defining target states and guiding execution
2+ years leading intelligent automation, integration, or user-experience-driven digital initiatives
Hands-on experience designing and operating at least one integration or automation platform (e.g., Boomi, Power Automate, UiPath, Automation Anywhere, BPM suites)
Experience in mentoring, influencing, or developing engineering or technical contributors
Experience in developing and presenting architectural artifacts to technical and business audiences
Experience in conducting process discovery, process documentation, or business process mapping

Preferred

Knowledge of RPA, workflow automation / business process management, business process mapping, and AI-enabled automation
Experience with data engineering concepts supporting automation (APIs, ETL, data modeling, event streaming)
Familiarity with AI/ML intelligent automation techniques (classification, NLP, document extraction, agentic AI, human-in-the-loop patterns)
Proficiency with modern integration patterns (APIs, microservices, EDI/B2B, publish-subscribe, orchestration vs. choreography)
Development skills in one or more languages (e.g., Node.js, .NET, Python)
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and layered testing principles
