Responsibilities

Driving innovative long-term objectives align with intelligence-driven operations and national security priorities through strategic planning that are security program compliance, operational risks and progress toward organizational goals
Providing oversight for all Special Security Representatives (SSRs) that operate in the Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment by monitoring performance, offering guidance, and ensuring effective implementation of SCI security policies and procedures under the direction of the Special Security Officer (SSO)
Overseeing compliance with regulations governing the storage, discussion, packaging, and transportation of sensitive national security information by conducting audits, inspections, and reviews to verify adherence to directives, Executive Orders, and statutes. Compliance ensures sensitive information is handled securely and reduces risks to security programs
Developing, implementing, and aligning SCI policies and procedures with Intelligence Community by analyzing threats, collaborating with stakeholders, and reviewing security directives to ensure consistent protection of SCI and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs)

Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 02/17/2026
Utilizing SCI laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to verify compliance and appropriate alignment
Providing Security Division leadership with recommendations for oversight and corrective actions to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and procedures; and evaluates existing SCI security practices and makes recommendations to correct any identified deficiencies
Developing strategies, procedures, and other forms of guidance that are necessary to support agency management officials in planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating, and administering personnel, physical, and administrative SCI security programs and operations
Developing, implementing, and monitoring Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security issues as a member of a federal agency workgroup to ensure that the SCIFs operates in compliance with applicable regulations, procedures, and alternative methods of implementing and monitoring SCI security requirements

Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment
Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment
Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment
Leadership Training: All newly appointed GS-15s are required to complete mandatory training
The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime
The incumbent is required to complete and maintain all training and qualification requirements for this position in accordance with training standards established by the CBP Component Chief Security Officer (CCSO), DHS Chief Security Officer, or the CBP Key Intelligence Official
