Director of Supply Chain

The Director of Supply Chain Management will lead and optimize the end-to-end supply chain function, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective supply chain that supports complex steel processing and distribution operations.

Responsibilities
Develops and executes a multi-site supply chain strategy aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and operational realities
Serves as a visible leader and role model, reinforcing company values, safety expectations, and cultural standards through daily actions and decision-making
Collaborates closely with executive, plant, sales, and finance leadership to align supply chain priorities with enterprise goals
Leads cross-functional initiatives to improve total cost of ownership, supplier performance, material availability, and service levels
Oversees supply chain risk management related to sourcing disruptions, demand variability, transportation constraints, and market volatility
Participates in industry events, supplier forums, and market networks to stay informed on pricing trends, capacity shifts, and emerging supply risks
Provides leadership and oversight for receiving operations, cycle counting, inventory accuracy, and inventory reporting to ensure data integrity, material visibility, and operational reliability
Optimizes inventory positioning across origin, cost, availability, and service requirements
Owns replacement cost analysis, lead-time evaluation, and buy-timing decisions to protect margin and support pricing discipline
Establishes and monitors inventory policies, including safety stock levels, min/max parameters, turnover targets, and stock vs. non-stock decisions
Partners with operations, warehouse, and yard teams to ensure effective material flow, layout, and handling practices
Drives continuous improvement in forecasting, demand planning inputs, and inventory analytics to support proactive decision-making
Defines and tracks KPIs related to inventory turns, supplier on-time delivery, quality performance, cost performance, and service reliability
Analyzes data trends to identify improvement opportunities, mitigate risk, and drive corrective actions
Leads process mapping and continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and supply chain workflows
Oversees budgeting and cost control for materials, freight, storage, and procurement-related spend
Executes supply chain initiatives and special projects in a timely, disciplined, and results-oriented manner
Leads, develops, coaches, and mentors supply chain and procurement professionals, building capability, accountability, and bench strength across the function
Communicates strategy, priorities, goals, and expectations in a clear, consistent, and compelling manner
Fosters a collaborative, high-performance culture within the supply chain team and across operations, sales, and support functions
Acts as a source of positive energy, support, and professionalism for teammates while reinforcing high standards of execution and integrity
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or a related field required
Minimum of 10 years of supply chain or procurement leadership experience within a manufacturing, steel, or industrial processing environment
Minimum of 5 years in a multi-site leadership role
Deep understanding of steel procurement, inventory economics, replacement cost management, and supplier accountability
Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging ERP systems, inventory tools, and performance dashboards
Proven ability to negotiate complex supply agreements and manage vendor relationships
Experience building, developing, and leading high-performing teams
Strong communicator who collaborates effectively across functional boundaries
Action-oriented, disciplined, and focused on measurable results
Office-based with regular time spent in production, warehouse, and yard environments
Travel required to company locations, supplier sites, and industry events (up to 20%)
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer and performing job duties
Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements for typing, phone use, and operating standard office equipment
Ability to independently move through office and warehouse environments, including walking on concrete floors and around operational areas
Ability to stand and walk between work areas, meeting spaces, and production environments as required
Ability to lift and carry office materials up to 25 lbs
Ability to maintain sufficient visual and auditory acuity to read screens, review documents, observe surroundings, and respond to verbal instructions and safety alerts
Ability to drive a standard company vehicle when required by the position
