Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end design and development of mechanical sub-systems (electro-mechanical, pneumatic, fluidic, thermal)
Design mechanisms for automated reagent/flow cell loading, clamping, and sealing
Architect thermal control systems (heating/cooling, sensors, condensation, heat management)
Define and manage cross-disciplinary interfaces (electrical, materials, consumables)
Guide CFD/thermal/optical simulations and validate designs with empirical data
Support system integration, verification, and troubleshooting
Lead design reviews; manage technical trade-offs and timelines
Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and specifications
Contribute to system architecture strategy and present technical updates to stakeholders
Qualification
Required
PhD + 5 yrs, or MS + 10 yrs, or BS + 10+ yrs in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field
Deep hands-on experience with complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic systems (life sciences/diagnostics preferred)
Expertise in thermal management and precision temperature control
Experience with fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors, materials)
Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and manufacturing drawings
Experience with machining, injection molding, 3D printing
Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware/software/chemistry interfaces
Hands-on prototyping and lab/shop tools experience
Working knowledge of Python, LabVIEW, or similar for device control/data acquisition
Technical leadership and mentoring experience
CFD/FEA simulation tools
NGS/genomics instrumentation background
Regulated product development experience
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
