Test Engineering Battery Technician

The Test Engineering Battery Technician will be responsible for setting up and taking down cell tests, managing inventory, maintaining laboratory upkeep, and documenting results to support engineers and improve testing processes.

Responsibilities
Cell test setup – Placing new cells or packs onto test channels, including documenting beginning-of-life cell data, connections to thermocouples and tester voltage/current connectors, and recording and maintaining cell testing locations
Cell test takedown – Removing end-of-life or failed cells or packs from test channels and documenting end-of-life test data using Lyten cell information database systems. Assist test engineers in mapping and recording cell locations and states and hand-off of cells to failure analysis and characterization engineers
Abuse testing setup and takedown – Work directly with test engineers in setting up and taking down abuse tests of cells and packs on a variety of abuse testing machines. This includes connecting cells to voltage, current, and thermocouple leads, as well as setting up video/imaging setups
Assist in unpacking and intake of Lyten and Northvolt produced pouch, coin, and prismatic cells from our various manufacturing sites
Inventory management – Assist in maintaining a highly organized inventory of cells and packs, ensuring routine disposal of end-of-life cells
Laboratory upkeep – Keep a clean and safe workspace and help optimize test engineering processes
Documentation - Document results, collect data, and assist in compiling reports to provide to engineers and VP of Performance and Reliability
Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) but communicate ideas/areas for SOP improvement and implementation
Continuous Learning – Stay updated with the latest best practices, tools, and technologies related to battery testing
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 2 years of practical laboratory experience, ideally including the testing of lithium-ion or other battery cell technologies in coin, cylindrical, prismatic, or pouch cell formats
Experience using battery cycler equipment like Maccor, Arbin, Gamry, BioLogic, etc
Basic knowledge of pouch, coin cell, cylindrical, or prismatic cells
Position requires working in both laboratory and office environment in addition to collaborating with teams in remote locations at times
Strong documentation, written/verbal communication, and time management skills
Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Must be able to sit, stand and use a computer for extended periods of time
Must be able to communicate effectively
Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs
No physical limitations to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when required
Must collaborate and work well with other team members
Must be able to occasionally work in a dry room setting
