Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Engineer
Lunar Outpost is a trailblazer in space robotics and planetary mobility, seeking a Safety and Mission Assurance Engineer to support the development of lunar surface mobility. The role involves identifying and mitigating risks throughout all phases of spaceflight development, ensuring safety standards are met, and conducting audits and analyses to promote a culture of safety.

Responsibilities
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with mission planning, testing, and operations
Ensure compliance with NASA safety standards across spacecraft, launch vehicles, and ground systems
Support the development and execution of crewed and uncrewed test procedures with a focus on safety
Provide independent oversight and validation of engineering requirements and risk assessments
Collaborate with engineering, testing, and operations teams to proactively address safety issues
Conduct safety audits, hazard analyses, and design reviews to ensure operational readiness and conformance
Provide a culture of safety across all phases of development and mission execution
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience in safety, mission assurance, or risk management for aerospace systems
Knowledge of safety standards, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation practices
Team oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organization and time management skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
U.S. Persons
Preferred
Advanced degree in a related field
Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or commercial space programs
Familiarity with launch vehicle or spacecraft development lifecycles
Experience with system safety tools
Background in supporting test operations or human spaceflight programs
