Principal Mechanical Engineer III – Early Research & Development -29218_PC
BEPC Inc is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer III to support Early Research & Development efforts for next-generation sequencing instrumentation. This hands-on role focuses on the design, development, and integration of complex electro-mechanical systems in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment.

Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end mechanical design and development of complex subsystems, including electro-mechanical, pneumatic, fluidic, and thermal components
Design and develop novel mechanisms for automated reagent and flow cell loading, clamping, and sealing
Architect and integrate precision thermal control systems (heating, cooling, sensors, condensation control, heat management)
Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, materials, consumables, and systems engineers to define and manage technical interfaces
Guide and validate CFD, thermal, optical, and mechanical simulations using empirical data
Serve as the primary technical expert during integration, verification, testing, and troubleshooting
Lead cross-functional design reviews and drive technical trade-off decisions
Manage technical timelines and deliverables for assigned subsystems
Create and maintain detailed CAD models, drawings, and engineering specifications
Contribute to long-term system architecture and technology strategy
Present technical data, progress, and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders
Qualification
Required
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
Extensive hands-on experience designing and testing complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems (life sciences or diagnostics preferred)
Strong expertise in thermal management and precision temperature control systems
Experience designing fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors, materials)
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) and manufacturing drawings
Experience designing for machining, injection molding, and rapid prototyping
Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and chemistry interfaces
Hands-on experience with machine shop tools and prototyping equipment (3D printers, CNC, laser cutters, etc.)
Proficiency with Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools for device control and data acquisition

Preferred
Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers
Experience using simulation tools (CFD, FEA)
Background in next-generation sequencing (NGS) or genomics instrumentation
Experience working in regulated product development environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
