Transportation Engineer Supvr - Lufkin District Maintenance

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to supervise personnel engaged in transportation engineering work. The role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, managing maintenance contracts, and coordinating with various stakeholders to maintain the district's transportation system.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Acts as consultant to staff engineers regarding plan operations as they relate to administration, programming, design, construction, right-of-way and maintenance
Assists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staff
Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers
Develops and monitors budget
Directs and oversees contractors' compliance with plans and specifications and authorizes payment of estimates
Drives to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support
Establishes, modifies or interprets applicable standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies
Responsible for emergency operations
Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
4 years experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Extensive knowledge of applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
Extensive knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations
Considerable knowledge of materials design, specifications and applications
Expert skill in applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
Proficient skill in establishing plans and setting objectives and goals that support overall business strategy/results; anticipating and adjusting for problems/roadblocks
Proficient skill in directing and establishing objectives; clarifying roles and responsibilities through individual performance plans; monitoring and measuring performance against goals; evaluating results and making necessary adjustments to meet deadlines
Proficient skill in planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
Proficient skill in using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
Sitting - prolonged periods of time
Standing-prolonged periods of time
Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing
