Senior PCB Design & Electronics Engineer (On-site)
Ohio Lumex Co., Inc. is seeking a hands-on, senior-level PCB design engineer to join their collaborative R&D team in Solon, OH. The role involves owning hardware from schematic capture through to manufacturable boards, leading PCB design and development, and supporting prototyping and debugging efforts.
Responsibilities
Own schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer, including constraints, rules, and release readiness
Design multi-layer PCBs for battery-powered and sensor-based products (mixed-signal, analog, and digital)
Integrate Bluetooth/Wi-Fi modules with layout practices that reduce RF, EMC, and EMI risk
Apply best practices for signal integrity, grounding, PDN design, EMI/EMC awareness, and thermal constraints
Create and maintain symbols, footprints, and component libraries with proper datasheet verification
Generate complete release packages: BOMs, fab/assembly notes, drawings, pick-and-place files, and Gerbers
Support DFM/DFA reviews and collaborate with manufacturing partners
Lead board bring-up using DMMs, oscilloscopes, and bench supplies (logic analyzer experience is a plus)
Diagnose prototype and production issues and drive design revisions
Perform or support fine-pitch SMD soldering and rework (hot air and microscope experience preferred)
Support in-house prototype builds using our pick-and-place machine (experience preferred; training available)
Assist with stencil, reflow, feeder setup, programming, and inspection (AOI experience is a plus)
Own component organization, labeling, kitting, and inventory tracking
Maintain BOM accuracy, lifecycle awareness, and alternate strategies to keep builds moving
Help with test setups, fixtures, validation plans, and development testing
Contribute to adjacent areas (mechanical, chemical, firmware/software) as needed
Qualification
Required
Several years of professional PCB design experience with senior-level capability
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related field); equivalent experience considered for exceptional candidates
Strong proficiency in Altium (schematic, layout, libraries, and disciplined release practices)
Proven ability to independently troubleshoot hardware with lab tools
Solid electronics fundamentals and practical design judgment
An ownership mindset — you can take a board from concept to manufactured, working hardware
Ability to work on-site (this position is not remote)
Preferred
High-speed or controlled-impedance routing experience
EMC-aware design and robust PDN/grounding strategies
Low-power, battery-operated systems and sensor front-end design
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi hardware integration
Pick-and-place or reflow process experience
Contract manufacturer (CM) coordination and revision control
Familiarity with IPC-style DFM best practices
