Controls Engineer (Siemens / TIA Portal)

Responsibilities

Design, program, and test Siemens PLC applications (S7-1200/1500) and motion/drive configurations (SINAMICS) in TIA Portal
Develop WinCC (Comfort/Advanced/Unified) HMIs, alarm management, user roles, recipes, and diagnostics
Design Profinet networks and integrate ET 200 I/O, safety devices, VFDs, and smart sensors; implement Profisafe for functional safety
Integrate robots, vision systems, tool changers, AMRs, end-effectors, and measurement devices using industrial protocols
Execute FAT/SAT, debug hardware/software, tune drives/motion axes, and support production startup
Develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials using ECAD tools
Create functional specifications, I/O lists, control narratives, and test procedures
Apply best practices for code modularity, diagnostics, and maintainability
Support training, troubleshooting, and both onsite and remote technical assistance
Participate in proposals, estimates, and technical presentations
Adhere to all CCAT safety policies, procedures, and laboratory protocols to maintain a safe and compliant work environment
Perform all other duties as assigned

Required

Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in industry designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems
Proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal (PLC, HMI/WinCC, drives, safety)
Experience with S7-1200/1500, ET 200 I/O, SINAMICS drives, Profinet, and Profisafe
Ability to read and create electrical drawings and understand industrial wiring standards
Strong troubleshooting skills across software, networks, and hardware
Experience integrating sensors, actuators, drives, and robots
Strong documentation and communication skills
Must fulfill ITAR citizenship requirements

Preferred

Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, or related field preferred
Experience with functional safety design (ISO 13849-1, IEC 62061) and safety PLC programming
Familiarity with UL 508A panel design and NEC/NFPA standards
Experience integrating robots with PLCs over Profinet/fieldbus
Knowledge of MES/SCADA connectivity (OPC UA, MQTT, databases)
Experience with version control, virtualization, or simulation tools
Customer-facing engineering services experience
