Associate Director of LSP Research Services

Responsibilities
Manages Core staff, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of a rigorous and innovative work environment
Evaluates incoming projects in consultation with other LSP scientists, including overall project feasibility, execution and prioritization, laboratory workflows, ensuring compliance with core policies
Directs the evaluation of new and improved technologies for spatial profiling, as well as relationship with facilities in the Boston area that support complementary approaches
Assists scientists at all stages of research using spatial profiling, including reviewing grants, writing letters of support, collaborating on funding applications, and providing advice and guidance on data collection and interpretation
Oversees the Core’s financial and administrative activities in collaboration with the LSP Finance Team, the LSP Executive Director and the Faculty Director
Develops cross-functional teams, both within Harvard Medical School and externally, to successfully execute LSP’s research portfolio with a specific focus on histopathology collaborations and core facilities
Represents the LSP via scientific publications and presentations at the local, national and international level via teaching and invited lectures focusing on best practices and state-of-the art approaches for spatial profiling
Monitors laboratory safety compliance and ensures compliance with University policies, procedures, and applicable legal rules and regulations
Oversees preparation of training manuals including standard operating procedures and related documents
May author/co-author scientific papers/other publications
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline and at least five years relevant of work experience; OR
A minimum of nine years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have demonstrated experience in organizing projects that span multiple scientific areas, documented success as part of a collaborative scientific environment, and accomplished record in publication and possibly grant writing
Experience in the quantitative analysis of data is essential, with skills in scripting languages such as MatLab, R, and/or Python a plus
Candidate shall have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail, and enthusiasm for basic and translational research
Candidate must be extremely organized, capable of multitasking and have strong skills in productivity software (Excel, Word, Trello etc.) and be effective in working with colleagues of similar rank
Experience in supervising junior staff members and in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships involving groups that span academia, industry, and funding agencies is strongly desired
The ideal candidate must be able to support multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize Core activities appropriately to meet service center milestones
Preferred
Ph.D. or M.D. desirable
Previous experience in overseeing operating budgets >$1M is preferred
