Summer Intern - Mechanical Engineering

HARMAN International is seeking a part-time Mechanical Engineering Intern to join their team in Northridge. The role involves assisting with the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and prototype speaker assemblies.

Responsibilities

Constructs, tests, and troubleshoots prototype and production loudspeakers and subassemblies using schematics, parts lists or verbal instructions and established testing guidelines, and reports progress back to the appropriate Mechanical or Acoustic Systems Engineer
Supports Systems Engineers and Engineering Leadership in the development of new products and sustaining engineering
Prepares for lab tours and presentations
Other projects that may be assigned

Required

Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program in Sophomore year or later, or graduate/Ph.D. program at an accredited institution
A degree in a related area of work with courses in Acoustics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Audio Production, Music, or related fields
Product application knowledge for technology products in audio
Strong oral and written communication skills and be able to confidently interact and present information to leadership
Work collaboratively with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Working knowledge of SolidWorks and 3D printing
Provide own housing and transportation to/from work in the Northridge, CA office
Possess unrestricted work authorization
Be open to working in the Northridge, CA office (hybrid option available; flexibility to come into the office on short notice when needed is appreciated)
Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
Must provide work availability from 12 weeks between May 2026 - August 2026 and be able to work 40 hours per week

Preferred

Some experience in a recording environment
Some experience in content creation
Experience with immersive audio
