Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and supervise the work of employees engaged in installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems used in parks, recreational facilities, and landscaped areas of the City
Interview, hire, evaluate, and train employees
Develop and implement preventive maintenance and operations schedules
Supervise acquisition of materials and supplies in order to complete daily and special projects
Prepare written reports and/or give oral presentations regarding maintenance and construction activities
Assist with budget requests, documentation, and preparation. Monitor expenditures
Prepare employee performance evaluations, accident investigation reports, disciplinary documents, and other documents concerning employee relations
Inspect and evaluate parks and equipment to determine schedules, priorities, and future needs; Respond to citizen complaints or inquiries regarding conditions and/or activities in parks
Interview with media, legal, and management regarding park conditions
Assist employees in maintenance, repair, and operation of irrigation systems such as pumps, controllers, valves and irrigation heads. Operate test equipment and earth moving equipment
Coordinate irrigation schedules with other parks and recreational activities. Respond to complaints regarding irrigation of city parks, equipment malfunctions, etc
Stay informed of technical advances in irrigation industry for use in City parks

Required

Completion of high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three years experience in maintenance of irrigation systems
Valid Current Commercial Driver's License
TNRCC Cert Back-flow tester
Texas Irrigation License
Knowledge of use of computer programs
Knowledge of turf maintenance and renovation practices
Knowledge of basic carpentry and painting
Knowledge of plumbing related to irrigation piping repairs, water supply piping, and control valves for irrigation, drinking fountains, or restrooms
Knowledge of electrical repair related to irrigation pump, controller, valve repairs or installation
Knowledge of installation, testing and repair of back-flow prevention devices
Knowledge of irrigation design methods
Knowledge of landscape irrigation auditing techniques to maintain healthy green plant material/turf and conserve water
Knowledge of irrigation system components and functions
Knowledge of troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems
Knowledge of maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to supervise the work of others
Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, labor hours, and expenditures
Ability to prepare reports and a variety of other documents
Ability to operate a variety of equipment used in the park irrigation maintenance
Ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment used in irrigation
Ability to operate computer and standard office equipment
Ability to adapt to changes in work priorities and schedules
Ability to work under a time line
Ability to set up and conduct training programs and safety meetings
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Physical Exam Required
Occasionally stand and walk during a shift
Occasionally sit, bend and kneel during the shift
Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds
Frequently push and pull objects
Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle or equipment
