Responsibilities

Maintains records for all impounded, abandoned, evidentiary, and junk vehicles, including intake status tracking, LEIN entry and ensures appropriate disposition in accordance with Michigan law and department policy
Responsible for compiling the proper documentation to facilitate the scrapping process of vehicles
Complies with State of Michigan Abandoned Car Act in accordance with established department policy
Coordinates with local wrecker companies, insurance providers, and citizens to ensure timely vehicle removal and compliance with applicable laws
Resolves disagreements and fosters positive relationships with citizens and insurance companies
Responsible for invoicing wrecker companies and accepting money for services on abandoned vehicles
Orders, inventories, and issues police uniforms, body armor, duty gear, and related equipment; maintains accurate inventory records for tracking and distribution purposes
Collaborates with Property and Evidence Specialist and Clerk for the lawful disposition of seized firearms by determining eligibility for return, sale, or destruction; conducts LEIN checks; updates records management systems; and arranges public auctions in accordance with state law and department policy
Determines appropriate method of firearms disposal in accordance with applicable State laws and Police Department policies and procedures
Safely handles and carries out the disposal of firearms in accordance with applicable State laws and Police Department policies and procedures
Performs related duties as assigned

Required

Associates degree with major course work in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
One to three years of administrative experience in the public sector or a law enforcement entity
Experience safely handling firearms, including verifying unloaded status
Posses and maintain a valid state of Michigan driver's license
Safe handling procedures for biohazardous materials
Basic filing systems, recordkeeping practices, and mathematical calculations
Michigan laws regarding disposal of vehicles and firearms
Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn law enforcement-related software and hardware systems
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Learn and identify firearm make and models
Analyze problems, make sound decisions, and execute tasks in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of internal and external contacts
Organize work, manage multiple tasks, and complete assignments accurately and concurrently
Successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required
Must successfully pass Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) certification within six (6) months of being hired
