Responsibilities

Independently conducting organic reactions (pilot and lab scales), including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and documentation using an electronic lab notebook
Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, sintering, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and documentation
Analyzing results, troubleshooting unexpected outcomes, and suggesting next steps
Characterizing materials using spectroscopic techniques (e.g., NMR, IR) and becoming proficient in polymer instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Impact, and Tensile Testing
Properly documenting and reporting data; presenting findings in team meetings
Troubleshooting/calibrating instruments; authoring SOPs and manuals
Supporting safety protocols, PSM, inventory management, ordering supplies, and coordinating external testing (including DOT-compliant shipping)
Handling/transferring flammable materials and powders (drum quantities) with some limited lifting of lab equipment

Required

BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent experience
Independently conducting organic reactions (pilot and lab scales), including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and documentation using an electronic lab notebook
Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing, sintering, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and documentation
Analyzing results, troubleshooting unexpected outcomes, and suggesting next steps

Preferred

Prior experience with pilot-scale polymerization and handling drum quantities of flammables highly preferred
Knowledge or hands-on experience with polymer characterization tools (preferred)
Ability to learn various testing methods/instruments quickly
Experience with mechanical testing equipment preferred
