Senior Human Resources Generalist

Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues, including performance concerns, misconduct, attendance, discipline, and terminations
Independently conduct and manage workplace investigations, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations
Prepare investigation plans, conduct interviews, document findings, and provide risk-based recommendations to client leadership
Coach managers and executives on corrective action, disciplinary processes, and best-practice employee relations strategies
Support and advise on Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), employee counseling, and documentation standards
Lead or support employee meetings related to performance, conduct, policy changes, and corrective actions
Provide advanced guidance on Leave of Absence administration, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation coordination, and related state and federal leave laws
Partner closely with MMChr’s LOA department to manage complex or escalated leave cases
Advise clients on interactive process requirements and return-to-work protocols
Ensure compliance with California-specific leave, wage and hour, and final pay regulations
Develop strong working relationships with client organizations to understand their workforce, culture, and HR needs
Regularly advise business leaders on HR policies, compliance requirements, and best-practice solutions
Create, update, and maintain Employee Handbooks and HR policies for MMChr clients
Assist with new client onboarding and account implementation
Support employee separations, ensuring compliance with California final pay requirements and documentation processes
Provide guidance on employee classifications (exempt vs. non-exempt) and HR compliance matters
Assist with unemployment, disability, and verification of employment (VOE) claims
Assist with I-9 compliance, audits, and employment eligibility verification
Support background check processes and new hire compliance documentation
Collaborate with payroll, benefits, risk management, and other internal MMChr teams to meet client service deadlines
Maintain accurate documentation and records across HR systems
Occasionally conduct client on-site visits within the Greater Los Angeles area
Qualification
Required
Minimum 3+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant hands-on employee relations and investigation experience
Strong working knowledge of California employment laws, including LOA regulations, wage and hour, and employee relations best practices
Proven ability to manage sensitive, high-risk HR matters with professionalism and discretion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence advising leadership at all levels
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple clients and priorities
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; able to assess situations beyond surface-level issues
Proficiency with HRIS systems, Excel, and electronic recordkeeping
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Preferred
PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification preferred (not required)
