Youth Engagement Coordinator*

Responsibilities

Work with the Aquatic Management Team to develop and implement youth violence prevention initiatives and programs. Work directly with the Aquatics team to ensure programming aligns with the established policies, procedures and guidelines at Goodman Pool
Collaborate and coordinate with the Madison Park’s Aquatic Team, Public Health Madison Dane County, community partners, residents, and city agencies to provide activities and activate spaces for teens
Communicate effectively with the Aquatics Management Team and other youth engagement collaborators
Engage teens in planning and implementing programs and services, including developing a structure for teens to participate in leadership development opportunities
Develop relationships and partnerships with other city departments, Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), and other community-based organizations which serve youth
Handle difficult, sensitive, and escalated guest relation situations and take action to resolve the situation. Exercise de-escalation techniques and sound conflict resolution skills
Serve as the onsite point of contact for any volunteers or staff assigned to the youth engagement program
Work with the Parks Volunteer Coordinator to identify volunteer positions and assist with the identification, recruitment, and tracking of volunteers
Educate youth on the Goodman Pool Behavior Policy, rules, regulations, and safety precautions, with a specific focus on conflict management, de-escalation, and preventing physical altercations; evaluate safety concerns and recommend process improvements
Manage and oversee programs ensuring achievement of all specified outcomes and measurements by using data to inform programming needs and track outcomes
Develop and implement teen violence prevention initiatives at southside Madison Parks and surrounding neighborhoods, including Wingra Triangle
Collaborate and coordinate with Public Health Madison Dane County, community partners, residents, and Madison Police Department (MPD) Community Officers, and other city agencies to provide activities and activate spaces during the summer and after school for teens
Develop relationships and partnerships with other City departments, Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), and other community-based organizations which serve youth
Engage teens in planning and implementing programs and services, including developing a structure for teens to participate in leadership development opportunities
Serve as the onsite point of contact for programming and events and oversee setup, activities and clean up
Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify volunteer positions and assist with the identification, recruitment, and tracking of volunteers
Enforce rules, regulations, and safety precautions, evaluate safety concerns, and make recommendations for process improvements
Handle difficult, sensitive, and escalated guest relation situations and take action to resolve the situation. Exercise de-escalation techniques and sound conflict resolution skills
Manage and oversee programs ensuring achievement of all specified outcomes and measurements by using data to inform programming needs and track outcomes
Interact with the public positively and professionally in all situations
Develop and maintain a positive and beneficial program experience for youth, guardians, and other participants and partners
Make sound judgement on unusual situations that may not be clearly articulated through policy
Lead meetings, prepare reports, and make presentations to community, Parks Management Team, Boards, Committees, and Commissions
Coordinate, oversee, and/or perform all administrative aspects of developing and implementing the programs including public outreach, grant writing, collecting statistics, program evaluations, program budgeting, and other office related tasks
Oversee purchasing, inventory, storage, and maintenance of equipment and supplies related to the programs
Coordinate and oversee use of City of Madison shared equipment, supplies, and spaces used for programming
Conduct program evaluations to ensure that high levels of program quality are always maintained
Provide accurate, prompt, and accessible information to fulfill internal and external requests
Work with the Madison Parks Foundation to identify grants, sponsorships, and donations to support youth programs
Perform other related duties as needed or assigned

Required

Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Principles and practices of youth development and positive youth engagement
Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Principles and practices of violence prevention, particularly for middle school and high school-aged youth
Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Community resources and services available to youth and families
Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Principles and practices of recreation programs that promote community well-being
Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Principles and practices of recordkeeping and documentation
Two (2) years of experience applying the following: Applicable ordinances, policies, and regulatory requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license
Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to support programs and other events
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and perform work while walking/standing for a large percentage of time
Ability to assist in setting up room/facility arrangements, including moving tables and chairs, bouncy castle, and recreational equipment
Ability to perform work in a traditional office setting

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or other related field
Familiarity with budgeting practices
Familiarity with technology and tools used in an office setting, including productivity software, social media, and online databases
Familiarity with resources related to recreation programming
Familiarity with resources related to racial equity
