Associate/Engineer/Senior/Staff Engineer - System Protection Engineering

The System Protection Engineering department ensures power system security and reliability through the application of protective relay settings and data communication networks. This role involves developing settings for protective relays that detect and isolate electrical faults on the power system, including design and modeling for up to 69kV equipment.

Responsibilities
Develop and/or review protective relay settings, perform engineering calculations, analysis, and research for Electric Transmission protection schemes inside the substation
Provide advanced technical support to conceptual engineering teams, project management teams and ET Field Organization throughout the course of capital projects
Participate in various company teams and industry-level organizations to enhance ET’s system protection performance
Participate in trade and industry organizations and benchmarking activities
Qualification
Required
0-2 years of relevant engineering experience for Associate Engineer
3+ years of relevant engineering experience for Engineer
5-6+ years of relevant engineering experience for Senior Engineer
8+ years of relevant engineering experience for Staff Engineer
Candidates should have an electrical or computer engineering background, preferably in electric power systems
Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments
Strong oral and written communication skills
Effective working independently and in a team environment
Ability to think analytically and apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems
Bachelor's in Engineering
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord
Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license
Preferred
Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred (e.g., Aspen ONELINER or PSS®CAPE)
Understanding of IEC 61850 communication protocol for intelligent substation protection is a plus
Experience with SAP work management systems is a plus
Programming skills for automation of system studies (e.g., Python, .NET, C#, etc.) is a plus
