Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer
The DC Department of Human Resources is seeking a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. This role is responsible for ensuring that all fleet vehicles remain in a safe, reliable, and mission-ready condition, directly supporting operational readiness and public safety.

Responsibilities
Inspects equipment at fire stations to determine nature of trouble, make repairs or conduct equipment maintenance
Arrange to have the apparatus brought to the Fleet Management Division when required
Overhauls large and small multi-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines, by disassembling and inspecting defective parts, installing and adjusting main bearings, piston rings, pistons, connecting rods and bearings, wrist pins, checking cylinder walls for excessive wear or scoring, grinding, re-facing, and resurfacing valves; testing, worn crank for out roundness and taper
Utilizes computer software to retrieve data from a database of vehicle information to aid in the diagnosis and repair of vehicle and equipment
Executes complete safety inspections by testing apparatus, vehicles, and small engines
Keeps the firefighting unit in service; Make service calls to fire stations and fire ground; diagnoses trouble; and makes repairs
Issues reserve equipment when repairs are not feasible
Notifies supervisor on duty of unusual conditions and takes proper actions as situations dictate
Qualification
Required
ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of measuring instruments
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
Troubleshooting
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required or must be obtained within eighteen (18) months from the date of appointment at the expense of the candidate/employee
Must possess and maintain as a condition of employment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper endorsement to operate all departmental apparatus
