Project Cost Controller
LotusLynx is seeking a Project Cost Controller to support large, complex, post-sale projects across multiple business units. The role involves acting as the financial subject matter expert, managing project financial health, profitability, forecasting, and risk throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Act as the financial lead and advisor for assigned projects
Partner with Project Managers to manage project P&L, margins, and profitability targets
Establish project financial structure, controls, and reporting frameworks
Track and manage all project-related costs, including labor, capital expenditures, and operating expenses
Monitor hours spent versus remaining effort and budget
Ensure actual costs align with approved budgets
Identify risks, variances, and cost overruns early
Develop and maintain project forecasts
Perform detailed financial analysis and provide recommendations
Analyze impacts of change orders, scope changes, and project challenges
Support negotiations by providing financial impact analysis
Review project KPIs and ensure alignment with financial targets
Prepare and present project health updates to senior leadership
Support monthly close activities for projects
Provide accurate project data for financial reporting and audits
Ensure reporting deadlines are met
Coordinate with Finance on accruals, invoicing, and revenue recognition
Work closely with Project Management, Finance, Sales, Engineering, Procurement, and Customer Support
Support pre-sales activities as needed, primarily in a post-sale capacity
Serve as a trusted financial advisor across multiple stakeholders and personalities
Use Excel extensively for tracking, analysis, and reporting
Work within ERP systems (SAP ECC currently, future migration to S/4HANA)
Maintain accurate project data, milestones, and budgets in internal systems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
5+ years of experience in project accounting, cost accounting, or project-based financial roles
Experience supporting complex, multi-project environments
Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and advanced analysis
Comfortable presenting financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Strong communication skills and professional presence
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred
Experience in construction, industrial, infrastructure, or project-driven environments
ERP experience (SAP preferred but not required)
