Public Relations Specialist I
Utah State University is seeking communication professionals to join their marketing and public relations team. The Public Relations Specialist will create editorial and promotional content, conduct interviews, and develop information assets to enhance the College of Engineering’s reputation.
Education
Responsibilities
Produce high quality, consistent blog entries about academic success, research, student life, college and university news, engineering news, faculty success, college prominence, and other highlights that fortify USU’s position as a leader in engineering education
Develop a storytelling strategy that elevates USU and the college’s strategic communication goals
Coordinate the production of email marketing content to various audiences, including alumni, students, faculty, industry, media, community, and government groups
Lead the production of an annual alumni magazine that features engaging stories about the college and its alumni
Develop and execute a strategic dissemination plan that amplifies and disseminates your storytelling to more audiences, such as influencers, thought leaders, and relevant news media organizations
Provide support for recruiting initiatives targeting prospective students and prospective faculty members
Develop copy for use in web pages, brochures, documents, marketing collateral, video and audio scripts, emails, and everyday communications
Develop communication assets that support special event programming and university advancement operations, such as fundraisers, alumni gatherings, guest speaker series, press conferences, commemorations, student events, community outreach events, etc
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
Excellent interpersonal and storytelling skills
Ability to manage a consistent workload of writing tasks
Accountable and professional: You research, fact-check, and proofread your content. You take ownership of your work and are proud that it reflects the best of the university and College of Engineering
Driven and curious: You want to succeed in this role. You study the work of your peers and aspire to create increasingly relevant and engaging content
Superior knowledge of contemporary writing conventions
Familiarity with Associated Press writing style
Excellent communication, presentation, and writing abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and document management
Ability to use Canva and Adobe tools
Preferred
Two years' experience in a professional media production environment such as a newspaper, radio or TV station, professional content creation, or similar experience at an advertising or creative agency
Experienced in storytelling: You find new and engaging ways to attract readers, and you are comfortable interviewing people and finding the right voice for each story
