Bilingual Program Lead - Spring Quarter
SitStayRead is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing children's literacy through engaging curriculum and Certified Reading Assistance Dogs. The Bilingual Program Lead will facilitate a dual language classroom residency, overseeing program delivery, managing volunteers, and ensuring adherence to program guidelines.
Responsibilities
Deliver grade-specific SitStayRead Kindergarten curriculum in 1 dual lingual Chicago classroom weekly for the duration of the contracted residency (8 consecutive weeks, with possible make-up dates within a week of that range)
Oversee all aspects of program preparation for and delivery in the classroom, including preparation, collection, and distribution of materials; student management; safety; timeliness, etc
Ensure that all program participants, including teachers, students, and volunteer Book Buddies and Dog Teams, adhere to program guidelines
Arrive on-site promptly at the designated time with all materials needed for program implementation
Address all volunteer issues on-site (substitutions, tardiness, guideline adherence, etc.) and communicate all volunteer issues to the Volunteer Manager, or to the Executive Director if the issue is related to partner school personnel, within 24 hours
Send weekly email correspondence with reminders, updates, and lesson objectives to each team of volunteers, as well as each classroom teacher as assigned
Field correspondence from volunteers and teachers, answering questions and providing feedback in a timely manner
Respond to all communications from fellow staff and program team members in a timely manner. Present SitStayRead staff with questions or concerns arising from volunteers, school staff, or personal observations and work to resolve collaboratively
Attend bi-weekly Program Team Meetings in person or virtually for the duration of the contract
Qualification
Required
Mission-driven with a passion for children's literacy, animal-assisted learning, and social justice
Experience working with Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students
Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and organize effectively. Able to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This role requires fluent Spanish and English
Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to schools throughout Chicago's south and west sides
Ability and willingness to attend occasional evening and weekend events
Completed a satisfactory background check/s as required by SitStayRead, CPS, and any other program partner where assigned
Preferred
Candidates who hold or are pursuing degrees in early or elementary education, reading, dual language acquisition, child psychology, or a related course of study will be given additional consideration
Retired and former educators who live on or near Chicago's south and west sides and are seeking to reenter the field in a limited capacity are encouraged to apply
Experience preferred in Google Workplace, Slack, and a database or willingness to be trained in these platforms
