Recreation and Parks Recreation Activity Center (RAC) Coordinator

NEOGOV is hiring for the Recreation Activity Center Coordinator position within the Department of Recreation and Parks. This role involves managing daily operations of Recreation Activity Centers and supervising programs that support youth engagement and development.

Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations of one or more Recreation Activity Centers (RACs) to ensure safe, consistent, and high-quality service delivery
Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates full-time and occasional employees; provides coaching, assigns work, and ensures staff coverage aligns with building needs and program activity levels
Plans, implements, and monitors a diversified program of educational, enrichment, prevention, and recreational activities that meet the needs of RAC participants, with a primary focus on at-risk youth ages 6–17
Ensures programs are delivered in a safe, structured, and supportive environment; reinforces participant expectations and behavior standards, and responds appropriately to incidents or conflicts
Oversees participant registration and engagement tracking; monitors participation trends and adjusts services, staffing, and schedules based on program needs and community interest
Plans, implements, and oversees the after-school drop-in program as well as the full-day summer drop-in program
Serves as a liaison between participants/families and partner agencies, schools, and the community to support youth and strengthen collaborative service delivery
Uses department systems and software to manage facility space usage and scheduling requests, maintains program records, and supports coordination of activities and services
Prepares and maintains accurate program documentation, including attendance records, incident reports, and required participant forms and waivers, and food service requirements
Produces routine statistical, operational, and analytical reports related to participation, programming outcomes, and service delivery; communicates trends, needs, and recommendations to supervisors
Creates schedules, enters time for full-time and occasional employees, volunteers, and completes performance evaluations
Responds to public inquiries regarding RAC programs, services, facility use, and participation requirements; supports outreach and engagement efforts to strengthen community awareness and involvement
Meets with community stakeholders, civic groups, and service partners to build relationships, address concerns, and promote RAC services
Assists with the planning and coordination of special events, community engagement activities, and seasonal initiatives held at the RAC or in partnership with other County locations
Supports recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers, interns, and program instructors, as assigned
Assists with routine facility monitoring, supply ordering, and inventory management to support program operations
Participates in staff meetings, required trainings, and professional development opportunities to remain current on youth development, safety practices, and program standards
Provides support during emergencies, building closures, or operational disruptions, including communicating updates to participants, families, and staff
May assist with outreach efforts such as distributing program information, promoting services, and supporting enrollment initiatives within the community
Performs other related duties as required

Required

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation and parks, social or behavioral science, public administration, or education
Experience as described in Examples of Essential Job Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a Non-Commercial, Class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment
Must earn and maintain valid CPR and first aid certifications within 10 months of appointment
Must earn and maintain a valid ServSafe Food Handler certification within 10 months of appointment
