Solar Technician, Operations & Maintenance

Responsibilities
Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders, track labor, document corrective actions, and maintain spare parts inventory for site equipment. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on PV modules, combiner boxes, trackers, inverters, transformers, switchgear, MV equipment, and communication hardware
Operates, monitors, and maintains solar facility systems, including inverters, DC collection systems, MV transformers, tracker motors/drives, metering systems, SCADA platforms, and auxiliary site equipment such as weather stations and data acquisition systems
Trains, mentors, and support other technicians, ensuring consistent execution of preventive maintenance tasks, safe work practices, and adherence to environmental, operational, and safety standards. Demonstrates situational leadership and promotes a strong safety culture
Leads equipment and system troubleshooting, identifies performance issues, analyzes root causes, and recommends corrective actions or engineering solutions to restore optimal site performance
Performs predictive and preventive maintenance, including thermal imaging, IV curve tracing, insulation resistance testing, vegetation assessments, and monitoring-based diagnostics
Performs electrical maintenance and testing on PV arrays, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, reclosers, breakers, and site protection systems in accordance with electrical codes and safety procedures
Troubleshoots electrical and control circuits, including communication networks, string outages, tracker control systems, SCADA alarms, power electronics, and transformer faults using electrical test instruments and diagnostic software
Develops, reviews, and updates operating procedures and work instructions to ensure safe, consistent, and efficient operation and maintenance of solar assets
Performs all assigned work safely, adhering to company safety policies, LOTO/Tag-Out procedures, environmental regulations, and housekeeping expectations. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards while supporting Work Management processes
Assists in requisitioning parts, supplies, and materials, ensuring proper documentation and inventory control
Performs other duties as assigned to support site operations, reliability, and performance optimization
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics OR
HS Diploma with minimum of 18 months of trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology
Successfully complete the training requirements and time in job requirements for the position including previously passing the EEI MASS test
Electrical background
Availability for Day shift work and overtime as required
Good oral and written communication skills
Basic computer skills
Understanding of power plant prints
Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
Ability to work in a solar plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Preferred
Associate degree in Solar Technology or Renewable Energy
Hands-on experience in solar, electrical, or industrial maintenance
Demonstrated competency in AC/DC theory, power electronics, and control systems
Experience with CMMS, SCADA interfaces, Excel, mobile data entry
Ability to read and interpret electrical prints, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and equipment manual
