Manager of Training and Development
Midwest Vision Partners is focused on improving and preserving vision for patients through a network of ophthalmologists and optometrists. The Manager of Training and Development is responsible for centralizing and standardizing clinical onboarding and staff development across multiple practices in Ohio, ensuring high-quality training experiences for new clinical employees.

Responsibilities
Serve as the contact for clinical onboarding across Midwest Vision Partners Ohio platforms, including the design and management of individualized, competency-based training schedules for all new hires
Conduct weekly check-ins during onboarding and monthly check-ins through the first year of employment to support readiness, engagement, and retention
Identify, train, validate, and monitor in-clinic trainers, providing ongoing feedback and making adjustments as needed to ensure training quality, consistency, and coverage across locations
Facilitate final training assessments and bi-annual competency evaluations, confirming skill proficiency and readiness for independent practice
Provide and assign targeted training content, coaching, and mentorship for new and existing staff to address skill gaps, cross-training needs, competency maintenance, and career advancement
Host weekly virtual Technician Academy sessions, delivering role-based theory instruction that complements hands-on training
Deliver and reinforce competency-based training and MVP standards of patient care, including clinical skills, EMR documentation and scribing, patient flow, exam room efficiency, and hand hygiene and exam lane disinfection
Manage JCAHPO enrollment and removal for applicable clinical staff
Ensure all in-clinic training and shadowing is performed by experienced and authorized trainers
Monitor and confirm the accuracy and completion of training schedules at each site
Provide on-site support during training visits to ensure smooth clinic operations
Promote adherence to clinical policies, quality measures, and patient safety protocols
Provide weekly progress updates on new hire training, staff competencies, and development needs
Collaborate with clinic leadership to identify staffing gaps, workflow improvements, and training priorities
Prepare proposals and solutions for operational or training challenges before presenting to leadership
Dedicate either Monday or Friday to scheduling, planning, reporting, and follow-up (5-10 hours/week), with the other day on-site supporting training needs
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all training activities, skills validations, and competency results in the LMS system
Ensure all training aligns with OSHA, HIPAA, and MVP compliance standards
Update and maintain training materials, manuals, and competency checklists
Qualification
Required
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required; COT or COMT preferred
Minimum 5 years of ophthalmic technician or scribe experience; prior management, mentorship, or training leadership strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of ophthalmology workflows, clinical operations, and patient service functions
Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills with a service-minded approach
Organized, self-directed, and able to adapt to multiple practice environments and learning styles
Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, EMR systems (Nextech preferred), and Google Workspace tools
Passion for coaching, developing others, and delivering a 'white glove' training experience
Ability to travel to multiple locations weekly
