Senior Human Resources Data Analyst
California State University, Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Senior Human Resources Data Analyst to enhance access to higher education. The role involves developing employee reports and conducting complex analyses to support university policies and collective bargaining direction.

Responsibilities
Conduct research, develop and update reports, dashboards, and perform analysis related to employee data, including faculty and staff, in support of system-wide priorities, data requests, budgeting, and collective bargaining direction, in such areas as compensation, turnover, workload, demographic, employment trends, etc
Use analyses to help generate employment forecasts and projections
Respond to ad hoc requests for information on HR related data from internal and external constituents, including Chancellor's Office staff, campuses, Board of Trustees, legislature, other state offices, media and unions
Create, modify, and execute CIRS and PeopleSoft reports, obtaining, cleansing, validating, and transforming (including joins and unions) employment and payment data from various sources and extracts
Extract, analyze and report on large and complex datasets using tools such as Excel, SQL, Focus, SPSS, SAS, Tableau Desktop/Prep, AWS Quick Suite, and other tools
Collaborate with the Data Analysis team to audit deliverables for accuracy, presentation, and branding, in alignment with the user’s specifications
Maintain acute awareness of Systemwide HR priorities as well as CSU priorities which pertain to recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional talent in order to facilitate relevant and meaningful insights in reporting, research and analysis
Train other team members in standards, procedures, and technology related to querying, extracting, understanding, and providing data for ad hoc and recurring reports
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Data Analysis team business process documentation
Collaborate with the Sr Manager of Data Analysis and the HR analyst to maintain and update the Data Analysis team website and related online resources
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related functional area or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
Minimum of four years' experience as a data or research analyst with demonstrated experience in statistical research methodology, data aggregation and analysis, and report preparation. Graduate level training in these areas may be substituted for work experience
Experience working with large databases and analyzing significantly complex datasets
Proficiency working with databases and large, complex and disparate datasets using tools such as Excel (including Power Query, Developer module), PeopleSoft Query, SQL, Tableau (Desktop or Prep), R, SPSS, SAS, QuickSight or other analysis, preparation or querying tools
Experience developing reports, presentations, graphs, and other visualizations using tools such as Tableau
Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently, determine the most effective approach to gathering and reporting needed information, and troubleshoot problems
Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
Professional and effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and priorities
Advanced knowledge of common business software such as the Microsoft Office 365, and AWS environment
Must work effectively with a wide variety of clients and outside consultants and vendors
A demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and to connect technical details to business priorities
Preferred
Prior work experience in higher education environment and understanding of human resources issues is strongly preferred
2-3 years of experience using Tableau, QuickSight or other data visualization tools is strongly preferred
Knowledge of PIMS/CIRS and FOCUS coding
Knowledge of R or Python in data analysis modules
Experience with the CSU and CSU data systems
Solid PeopleSoft and CIRS Query writing skills
Knowledge of HR reporting particularly in areas of compensation, payroll and benefits
