Responsibilities
Manage, coach, and support a team of 10-12 engineers
Facilitate career growth conversations and foster a culture of psychological safety, kindness, and continuous learning
Act as the 'glue' between Product Management, Design, and Engineering
Break down complex strategic goals into iterative, executable engineering milestones
Ensure we ship value to users reliably and well
Participate in technical RFC reviews and architecture discussions
Help the team weigh trade-offs between 'perfect' and 'shipped.'
Ensure we build modular, composable, maintainable, and robust systems
Partner with recruiting to interview and hire engineers
Own the onboarding experience, ensuring new hires feel integrated and productive quickly
Champion the health of your team’s services
Oversee on-call rotations and incident response processes
Qualification
Required
Experience directly managing software engineering teams
Experience with managing both development and operational workstreams
Experience collaborating with a remote distributed team
Managed and/or participated in an on call rotation
Experience driving observability, reliability, and availability for large-scale distributed systems
Background in backend systems engineering (preferably in Go, C++, or Java)
Understanding of the challenges of distributed systems, concurrency, and consistency
Familiarity with domain driven design
Preferred
Managed a full stack team (frontend and backend engineers)
Exposure to systems software and services written in Go and Javascript
Experience in one or more of the major public clouds
Background in leading engineering teams for large-scale enterprise platforms
