Design Staff
JCJ Architecture is seeking a Design Staff Architect to support the development of design and documentation. The role involves assisting the project team with architectural assignments, communication, design, and documentation processes for various projects.

Responsibilities
Develops an understanding of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects
Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow
Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person
Develops proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software
Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision of Project team leadership
Maintains an on-going vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership
Adheres to established project schedules
Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping
Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants
Develops the ability to present to clients both physically and virtually
Develops knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes
Develops creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types
Learns and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement
Implements design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines
Develops a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning
Assists with development of design solutions. Selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client team. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects
Develops facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts. Share knowledge of these applications with team members
Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings. On certain projects, delegates the task of selections to junior staff
Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations. This may require coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams
Learns to produce building project documentation from concept through construction documents. Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings. E.g. Learns to develop schedules and details for partition types and doors
Learns to create detail drawings for floor, wall and roof assemblies. Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices. Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins
Learns to produce construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization
Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization
Participates in designated site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team
Acquires knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning. Learns how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes
Acquires knowledge about Code Survey and Code Drawings for project
Learns about local zoning review and approval process to assists the PM as required
Actively maintains resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries
Builds knowledge of Materials, Systems and Equipment costs
Learns to understand the manufacturers’ specifications and the creation of the Project Specifications
Learns how to accurately perform numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes
Participates in value engineering exercises
Learns and assists in answering RFI’s, under direction of Project team
Using JCJ software, assists with review of shop drawings and submittals. Learns to effectively file reviewed materials
Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested
Qualification
Required
Professional BArch degree or Master's in Architecture
0-3 years' experience
Revit, AutoCAD current versions
MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project
Internships of related experience in an architectural drafting position
