Power System Engineer
Talent Groups is seeking a Power Systems Network Modeling Engineer to provide modeling support and assist senior modelers by developing and maintaining transmission network models. This role supports operational and planning models, contributes to system upgrades, and collaborates closely with cross-functional grid and market teams.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain operational power system models using the Network Model Management System (NMMS)
Collaborate with Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG) on model data exchange and transmission network maintenance
Review generator and transmission equipment data submitted by resource entities and coordinate corrections for invalid data
Manage and support transmission system modeling software infrastructure, including databases, interfaces, and data export formats
Develop and maintain modeling tools using C#, Java, and/or Python to validate transmission network data
Create and maintain SQL-based validation rules for operational and planning models
Support NMMS and MOD application upgrades, system patches, and server administration
Work closely with teams across System Operations, System Planning, Forward Markets, Resource Integration, Client Services, and Grid Applications Development
Review, draft, and present updates to protocols, guides, procedures, and training materials related to network modeling
Assess updates to NERC standards and evaluate impacts to modeling methodologies
Provide training and mentoring to members of the Engineering Development Program (EDP)
Support education and documentation for internal teams and external market participants
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience with at least one programming language: C#, Java, or Python
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
1–2+ years of experience as a Power Systems Engineer or similar role
Experience in the electric utility or power industry preferred
Hybrid work model with minimum 2 days per week on-site in Taylor, TX
Additional on-site presence may be required during grid emergencies or tight grid conditions
Work arrangements are subject to business needs and may change
Preferred
Experience with SQL
Familiarity with Git/Bitbucket and Jira
Knowledge of power system modeling and data validation principles
